I am excited to report that in our first week since our international media launch, Taste of Playa has received an overwhelmingly positive response.
The local municipality has opened their doors to our committee, giving us the approvals we need to use the public park space and a multitude of other required permits. Each of the hardworking officials we have met with has greeted us with respect and enthusiasm about this new event which will surely bring much needed positive press to this magical region of Mexico.
Without much direct solicitation on our part, many local businesses have pledged their support for this fledgling community event. LocoGringo.com, Luna Blue Hotel and One Stop Real Estate , have signed on as Executive Chef Sponsors following the lead of our Platinum Event Sponsors, Buy Playa and Bric International. At the Sous Chef Level, we welcome Thermaflex and Promomap . Last but certainly not least, In the Roo jumps in with Abyss Dive Center as a new Pastry Chef Sponsor. Still, many more contributors, both monetary and in-kind, are needed to assure the success of this event.
Our beautiful marketing brochure has captured the attention and imaginations of local chefs and restaurateurs and is creating quite a buzz around town. John Gray’s Place, Cocina 38, Babes Noodles and Bar, Carboncitos, Diablito Cha, Cha, Cha, El Fogon and Los Aguaschiles have all thrown their chef hats into the ring and will be on hand serving up tastes of their signature dishes. Representatives from Off the Vine and The Dirty Martini Bar will make sure festival attendees have a bit of wine or a clever cocktail to round out the gourmet graze experience.
On behalf of the Executive Committee, I send a special “Thank you” to the local businesses and restaurants who have already given Taste of Playa their support in this inaugural year. This is an enormous undertaking that has already consumed hundreds of man hours in planning and execution. Many more long hours will certainly follow. The success of this event relies entirely on the participation and cooperation of the Playa del Carmen community: business owners, local government officials and residents. With your help, Taste of Playa will become a world class annual event, one which will put Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya on the map as a culinary destination for discriminating diners from across the globe.
Taste of Playa – 1st Annual Sampling will be held on September 5, 2009 from3pm to 9pm in the Parque Fundadores, Playa del Carmen, Mexico. For more information and ticket sales, visit www.tasteofplaya.com.
